Plus Size Suits Sydney CBD
Bespoke Tailoring for Every Body

Standard suits are designed for a body type that fits almost nobody. If you've struggled to find suits that fit well off the rack — pulling across the back, gaping at the chest, or bunching at the seat — the problem isn't your body. It's the sizing system.

At Chokman, we build every suit from scratch using 30+ individual measurements. No standard patterns, no size limits, no scaled-up templates. Just a suit designed precisely for your body — whatever your size, shape or proportions.

Why Standard Suits Fail Plus Size Bodies

Standard suit sizing makes one critical assumption — that your body proportions scale uniformly with your size.
As you get larger, the assumption is that your chest, waist, shoulders, arms and hips all grow at the same rate.
This is almost never true.

The result is a suit that may fit in one area but fails completely in others:

For plus size men:

  • Jacket fits at the chest but pulls and bunches across the back

  • Shoulders sit too wide and drop past the natural shoulder line

  • Trousers fit at the waist but pull across the seat and thighs

  • Lapels too wide or too narrow relative to the chest

  • Jacket length covers the seat or rides up at the front

For plus size women:

  • Jacket gapes at the bust or pulls across the back

  • Shoulder seams sit too far out or in

  • Trousers pull across the hips and ride up in the seat

  • Jacket waist sits at the wrong point on the torso

  • Sleeves cut too narrow through the upper arm

No amount of alteration can fully fix these structural problems — they require a pattern built for your specific body from the start.

What Chokman Does Differently

30+ measurements — not 10–15 Most tailors take 10–18 measurements. Chokman takes 30+ including sub-categories that directly affect fit for plus size bodies — bicep width, calf circumference, seat depth, shoulder slope angle, front and back rise, and posture angle.

No standard patterns Every Chokman suit is built from a pattern created exclusively for your body. We don't start from a base block and scale it up — we start from your measurements and build up from there.

No size limits Chokman tailors suits for every body type and size. We have extensive experience working with plus size clients — men and women — and understand the specific fitting priorities that make the difference between a suit that looks custom-made and one that doesn't.

Same price for every body Pricing at Chokman is the same regardless of body size. A 2-piece suit in Super 120s starts from $699 for every client — no surcharges, no extra charges for larger sizes.

In-house production Every suit is cut, fitted and finished in our Sydney CBD studio by our in-house tailors. You deal directly with the tailor making your suit — not a salesperson relaying orders to an overseas factory.

Specific Tailoring Considerations For Plus Size Men

Chest-to-waist balance
Many plus size men carry weight in the midsection — resulting in a chest-to-waist ratio that standard suits cannot handle. A Chokman jacket is cut with the correct chest circumference and shaped at the waist to create a flattering, structured silhouette rather than a boxy, shapeless line.

Back balance
Men who carry weight across the upper back often find standard jackets ride up at the back hem or pull across the shoulders. We adjust the back pitch — the angle at which the sleeve is set — to sit correctly on your specific back shape.

Trouser rise
Standard trousers frequently have insufficient rise for plus size men — resulting in trousers that don't sit comfortably at the natural waist. Every Chokman trouser is cut with your exact front and back rise measurements.

Jacket length and button placement
For men with a fuller midsection, jacket length and button placement are critical for a flattering silhouette. We adjust both elements specifically for your proportions.

For Plus Size Women

Bust-to-waist-to-hip ratio
Women's bodies have far more variation in these proportions than standard sizing accounts for. A Chokman jacket fits at the bust, shapes at the waist and sits correctly at the hip — simultaneously — because it's built from all three measurements independently.

Shoulder width vs bust depth
One of the most common fit failures for plus size women is a jacket that fits across the bust but has shoulders that are far too wide — or vice versa. We cut the correct shoulder width independent of the bust measurement.

Trouser seat and thigh
Women with fuller hips and thighs frequently encounter trousers that fit at the waist but pull across the seat — creating horizontal creasing that no alteration can fully correct. Chokman trousers are cut with accurate seat and thigh measurements from the start.

Sleeve pitch for curved posture
Women with a fuller bust often carry their arms slightly forward — affecting how jacket sleeves hang. We adjust the sleeve pitch to account for this, ensuring sleeves hang straight rather than pulling forward.

The Chokman Process

1. Consultation: 30-45 minutes We begin with a conversation about your lifestyle, workplace, and how you want to feel in the suit. John will discuss silhouette, fabric, lining, buttons and all details before a single cut is made.

2. 30+ Measurements John takes over 30 individual measurements — including sub-measurements most tailors overlook. Shoulder slope, posture, waist-to-hip ratio, seat shape. Everything that makes your body unique is accounted for.

3. First Fitting Your suit comes together in a basted fitting — you try the shell before it's finished. Adjustments are made at this stage for perfect balance and fit.

4. Final Fitting & Collection Final adjustments are completed and your suit is hand-finished. Most suits are ready in 3–5 weeks.

True Bespoke clients receive additional fittings and a unique paper pattern kept on file permanently — so every future suit is cut from your exact pattern.

Plus Size Suits FAQ

Do you have a maximum size?

No — Chokman has no size limits. We tailor suits for every body type and size. Bespoke tailoring by definition has no size restrictions because every suit is built from your individual measurements.

Is pricing the same for plus size?

Yes — pricing at Chokman is the same regardless of size. A 2-piece suit starts from $699 for every client with no surcharges for larger sizes.

What body shapes do you work with?

All of them — apple, pear, hourglass, rectangle, athletic, petite, tall, plus size. Bespoke tailoring is specifically designed to accommodate body shapes that standard sizing cannot serve.

How is this different from buying a larger size off the rack?

A larger off-the-rack size scales all measurements uniformly — it doesn't address proportional differences. A Chokman suit is built from 30+ of your specific measurements with no reference to any standard size, creating a fit that no off-the-rack garment can replicate regardless of size.

Can I bring a support person to my consultation?

Absolutely — you're welcome to bring a partner, friend or family member to your consultation. Many clients find it helpful to have someone with them for style decisions.
