Custom Tailored Suit - FAQ

How much does a custom tailored suit cost in CHOKMAN?

A bespoke suit at Chokman starts from $699 for a 2-piece suit in Super 120s European wool, $999 in Super 140s, and $1,399 in Super 160s. Premium Holland & Sherry fabric collections start from $2,200. Jackets start from $499, trousers from $299, and vests from $299. All pricing includes your initial 30-minute consultation, 30+ body measurements, hand-tailoring by our in-house tailors, and at least one fitting. Unlike made-to-measure services, every Chokman garment is constructed from scratch using a unique pattern made exclusively for your body. There are no hidden costs — what you see is what you pay.

What is the difference between a bespoke suit and a made-to-measure and tailored made suit?

A bespoke suit is fully handcrafted from a unique pattern created exclusively for your body — no base template is used. It requires multiple fittings and delivers the highest possible level of fit, comfort, and personalisation. A made-to-measure suit adjusts a standard block pattern to your measurements, with fewer fittings and a faster turnaround. An off-the-rack suit is manufactured in fixed sizes with no customisation. At Chokman, every suit is fully bespoke — we create an exclusive body pattern for each client as standard, not as an upgrade. This means your suit accounts for every asymmetry and proportion of your body, resulting in a garment that moves with you naturally.

How long does it take to get a tailored suit made?

A custom suit at Chokman takes 3 to 5 weeks from your initial consultation to collection. The process includes a 30-minute consultation, precise measurements across 30+ body points, fabric selection from 500+ European wool options, hand-crafting by in-house tailors, and at least one fitting to perfect the silhouette. Rush orders may be available (2-3 weeks)

Alterations after delivery take an additional 3–5 days.

Are tailored suits worth it compared to off-the-rack suits?

Yes — for most professional and special occasion needs, a bespoke suit significantly outperforms off-the-rack. The key difference is fit: proper shoulder alignment, correct sleeve pitch, and a jacket balance tailored to your posture make a dramatic visual difference that no amount of off-the-rack alterations can fully replicate. A well-made bespoke suit in quality wool also lasts far longer than cheaper ready-made options — many Chokman clients wear their suits for 10+ years. For weddings, corporate environments, and formal events where appearance matters, the investment pays for itself in confidence, longevity, and the compliments you'll receive.

What is the best fabric for a business suit?

For a business suit in Sydney, 100% European wool in Super 120s or Super 140s is the gold standard. Super 120s wool offers excellent durability and structure — ideal for daily wear in a corporate environment. Super 140s is softer, finer, and drapes more elegantly, making it ideal for client-facing roles and important meetings. For Sydney's climate, lightweight wool (270–300gsm) provides breathability in summer while maintaining structure year-round. Navy and charcoal are the most versatile professional colours — navy reads as approachable and authoritative, charcoal as formal and commanding. Avoid polyester blends for professional suits — they don't breathe, they pill, and they age poorly.

What is the best suit for a wedding?

The best wedding suit depends on your dress code, venue, time of day, and personal style. For formal evening weddings, a tuxedo with peak lapels and a bow tie is the classic choice. For daytime or garden weddings, a light grey or navy 2-piece suit in linen or lightweight wool is more appropriate. For beach or destination weddings, a linen suit in ivory or light tan works beautifully in Sydney's climate. At Chokman, we take the time to understand your wedding environment, location, theme, and groomsmen coordination before making any recommendations. We also offer group packages for wedding parties of 3–6 people, including complimentary ties and pocket squares for each person.

How should a suit fit properly?

A properly fitted suit should sit cleanly on the shoulders with no divots or wrinkling — the shoulder seam should end exactly where your shoulder ends. The jacket should close comfortably at the button without pulling or gaping at the chest. Sleeve length should show approximately 1cm of shirt cuff. Jacket length should cover your seat and your trouser waistband. Trousers should sit at your natural waist and break lightly on the shoe — a half break is the most versatile length. At Chokman, we take 30+ body measurements to account for every proportion and asymmetry, ensuring your suit enhances your physique rather than fighting it. A fitting is always included to make final adjustments before you collect your garment.

How do I care for and maintain a tailored suit?

To keep your Chokman suit in excellent condition, hang it on a wide wooden hanger after each wear and allow it to air overnight before returning it to the wardrobe — this lets moisture and any odour escape naturally from the wool fibres. Avoid wearing the same suit on consecutive days; rotating between two or more suits dramatically extends the life of each. Brush the fabric gently after each wear to remove dust and lint. Steam rather than iron where possible — a handheld steamer removes creases without the risk of shining the fabric. Dry clean sparingly, no more than once or twice a year, as frequent dry cleaning degrades the wool over time. Store in a breathable suit bag, never plastic. With proper care, a quality European wool suit from Chokman will last 10–15 years or more.

Can you tailor suits for people with non-standard body proportions?

Yes — this is one of the core advantages of bespoke tailoring over off-the-rack or made-to-measure. Chokman takes 30+ measurements that account for asymmetries like uneven shoulders, a longer left arm, a fuller seat, or a high right hip — proportions that standard sizing systems simply cannot accommodate. We have tailored suits for clients with broad shoulders and narrow hips, shorter torsos, larger chest-to-waist drops, and everything in between. Our in-house tailors have over 20 years of experience working with diverse body types. If you've struggled to find suits that fit well off the rack, bespoke tailoring is specifically designed for you.

Do you offer group packages for weddings and corporate events?

Yes. Chokman offers group packages for wedding parties and corporate teams. Wedding packages are available for groups of 3 to 6 people, with pricing starting from $1,899 for three Super 120s 2-piece suits — a saving of 10% compared to individual pricing. Larger groups receive greater discounts: 12% off for 4 suits, 15% off for 5 suits, and 25% off for 6 suits. All group packages include complimentary ties, bow ties, and pocket squares for each person. Corporate bulk enquiries are also welcome — contact us directly on 02 8668 5447 or at enquiries@chokman.com.au to discuss your requirements.

Holland & Sherry is one of the world's most prestigious fabric mills, founded in London in 1837 and now based in Scotland. Their fabrics are regarded as among the finest available for bespoke tailoring, used by Savile Row tailors and the world's top suit makers. The wool is sourced from the finest Merino flocks and woven to exceptionally high Super numbers, resulting in a fabric that is softer, finer, and more beautifully draped than standard mill options. At Chokman, Holland & Sherry fabric suits start from $2,200 that reflects the exceptional quality and heritage of the fabric. For clients wanting the finest possible garment, Holland & Sherry is the clear choice.

What is Holland & Sherry fabric and why does it cost more?
Can I bring my own fabric to Chokman?

Yes, we can work with client-supplied fabric in most cases, subject to a consultation to assess the fabric's suitability for suit construction. Not all fabrics are appropriate for tailoring — weight, weave, and composition all affect how a garment can be cut and constructed. We recommend contacting us before purchasing fabric externally so we can advise on the minimum yardage required and whether the material is suitable. Most clients prefer to select from our in-house collection of 500+ European wool fabrics or our Holland & Sherry premium range, as these are pre-vetted for tailoring quality and available in a wide range of weights and colours suitable for Sydney's climate.
