Court Suits for Female Lawyers Sydney
A court appearance demands more than a clean suit. It demands authority, precision and fit — the same qualities you bring to your advocacy. Chokman tailors bespoke court suits for female lawyers and barristers in Sydney CBD, made to your exact measurements from premium European wool, from $699.
We have tailored court suits for Sydney's legal professionals for over 12 years. Every suit is cut to NSW court dress standards — structured, conservative and impeccably finished.

Why Court Attire Matters
The NSW Legal Profession Uniform Law and court conventions set clear expectations for courtroom dress. For female lawyers, that typically means a dark tailored suit — charcoal, navy or black — worn with a collared shirt or blouse. Fit matters as much as colour. An ill-fitting suit, regardless of quality, undermines the professional authority you've built.
Off-the-rack suits are cut to standard sizes that rarely account for real proportions — shoulder slope, waist-to-hip ratio, posture, seat shape. The result is a jacket that pulls across the back, trousers that gap at the waist, or sleeves that hang past the wrist. Bespoke tailoring eliminates all of this.
Recommended Fabrics for Court
Super 120s wool — from $699 The standard recommendation for daily court wear. Durable enough for regular use, breathable in Sydney's climate, and structured enough for formal appearances. Available in charcoal, navy, mid-grey and black.
Super 140s wool — from $999 A finer weave with more drape. Ideal for tribunal hearings and client-facing work. The additional softness reads as authority in the room.
Super 160s wool — from $1,399 Reserved for special appearances. An exceptional fabric that wears beautifully under formal lighting.
The Process
Consultation: 30-45 minutes John discusses your court environment, typical appearance schedule, and any fit concerns from previous suits. First-time clients often arrive with a list of problems they've accepted as normal — jackets that ride up, trousers that pull, shoulders that don't sit flat. We address all of them before cutting begins.
30+ Measurements John takes over 30 measurements including shoulder slope, posture, waist-to-hip ratio and seat shape — the details that determine whether a suit fits properly or simply looks close. These measurements are kept on file for future orders.
First Fitting: suit taking shape and any balance adjustments are made at this stage. Alteration normally take 1 week. The whole process is around 3–5 weeks.

Charcoal — The most versatile court colour. Works across all court levels and seasons. Pairs with white, pale blue or cream shirts.
Navy — Strong, authoritative and slightly warmer than charcoal. Particularly effective in District and Supreme Court appearances.
Black — Formal and conservative. Best for criminal matters, High Court appearances and silk appointments.
Mid-grey — Appropriate for Local Court, tribunal and corporate matters. Less formal than charcoal but still professional.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dress standards for female lawyers in NSW courts?
NSW courts expect legal practitioners to wear professional, conservative attire. For women this typically means a dark tailored suit — charcoal, navy or black — with a collared shirt or blouse. Chokman's court suits are cut specifically to meet these standards.
How many suits do I need as a practising lawyer?
Most of our legal clients start with two suits in rotation — one charcoal, one navy — to allow proper resting between wears. A third suit in a lighter fabric extends the wardrobe for warmer months and less formal tribunal appearances.
Can I order a replacement suit using my existing measurements?
Yes. John keeps all client measurements on file. True Bespoke clients have a permanent paper pattern — reorders are made to the same pattern with no re-measuring required, unless your measurements have changed.
How far in advance should I book before an important appearance?
Allow 5–6 weeks minimum to account for consultation, fitting and finishing. If you have a specific court date, mention it at your first consultation and we'll plan the timeline accordingly.
Do you tailor shirts for court as well?
Yes. Chokman tailors bespoke shirts from 1,500+ European cotton fabrics, starting from $150. Many of our legal clients order a suit and two or three shirts together for a complete court wardrobe.
Where are you located?
Suite 8, Level 6, 321 Pitt Street, Sydney CBD — a short walk from the NSW Supreme Court, District Court and Family Court. By appointment only, 7 days.
